Description
This is a percussion primed cartridge incorporating a fragmentation, high explosive incendiary (frag HEI) projectile. The projectile contains a setback and centrifugally armed, impact fired, point detonating (PD) B-23A fuze. The cartridge is used in aircraft cannon.
The projectile body is black oxide coated with a red band painted ahead of the rotating band and a white band ahead of the bourrelet. The tip of the fuze is lacquered reddish purple. The remainder of the fuze and the cartridge case are unpainted. The fuze has its nomenclature and manufacturing information stamped in the body. Manufacturing information is stamped in the base of the cartridge.
