This is a more simple version of the PMD-7, in that the body of the mine is merely a bored out block of wood. The “ts” after the 7 stands for solid block. The mine uses a 50- or 75-gram cylindrical charge instead of a heavier block charge.
The PMD-7 and PMD-7ts mines are laid in antipersonnel minefields. Frequently they are interspersed in antitank minefields around outposts and gun positions, along trails and road shoulders, and in grassy areas.
Both models function in the same manner. Pressure on the lid forces the winged retaining pin from the spring-driven striker, which is released against the detonator, firing the mine.
Main charge - TNT, 2.6 oz (73 grams)
