Description
These are air-to-surface bombs with a laser guidance system. Target illumination is achieved by a laser illumination device which may be either ground mounted or carried in a target-spotting aircraft. The GBUs are used against heavily defended tactical surface targets when a high degree of accuracy is required. The BLU-109 series bombs do not contain a nose fuze well.
The guidance kit is painted olive drab. Component part designations, loading data, serial number, and date of manufacture are stenciled in black on the computer and the control sections. The airfoil group markings are stenciled in yellow.
