
This is a percussion primed fixed cartridge with a fin stabilized, high explosive antitank (HEAT) projectile. The projectile incorporates a setback armed, impact or impact inertia fired, point initiating base detonating (PIBD) fuze (M530 or M509 series). These fuzes contain a piezoelectric crystal and an electric detonator. The projectile is used in antimateriel, armor defeating roles. The M371 practice cartridge is used for training.
Currently manufactured projectiles are painted black; projectiles of earlier manufacture were painted olive drab. Markings are stenciled in yellow. Nomenclature and manufacturing data, are stamped on the projectile body.
