Description
The Mk 27 Mods 1 - 8 is a Navy gun fired projectile. The Mk 27 is used in the 6"/53 guns. These are BD fuzed Navy projectiles with less penetrating ability than AP projectiles. They have no AP caps, but a thin hood to which a windshield is secured. They have a larger HE main charge in the base than AP projectiles, and correspondingly thinner body walls.
The 6 inch Special Common Projectiles Mk 27 Mods 2 and 5 have 2.50 pounds of explosive, rather than the 2.20 pounds contained in the other Mods.
