Point Detonating Fuze Mk 27 is of the superquick type designed to function on light impact. The fuze is used with 40mm gun HE ammunition.
The fuze has a one-piece aluminum body containing a striker in the nose to drive a firing pin. The firing pin is held by two spring-loaded detent pins. A disk-shaped rotor containing the detonator is axially in line with the firing pin. The rotor housing restricts rotor movement to the transverse axis of the fuze. The detonator is held out of line until arming by two spring loaded pins which lock the rotor in position. A base plug containing the booster lead charge and booster charge is threaded into the base of the fuze.
