The BMZ-1 magnetic mine is similar to the magnetic mine 158 in operation and employment. The BMZ-1, however, is a circular, dome-topped mine, 9 3/4 inches in diameter and about 2 5/8 inches in height. The magnet is doughnut-shaped and is located in the bottom of the mine. Two fuze wells are located in the top of the mine. The lead-break type delay fuze is used.
This mine was used in World War II, chiefly by Soviet guerillas, to sabotage vehicles and tanks behind the lines of the opposing forces.
