The Type 59 AT mine is a copy of the former Soviet TMN-46 AT mine. It has been offered for sale by both NORINCO and Poly Technologies, Inc.
The explosive charge, fuze(s), and boosters; a diaphragm to separate the pressure plate and explosive charge; and a side-mounted filler plug. The pressure plate is stepped to facilitate crushing and a controlled actuation pressure results from this design. The two-pronged safety pin acts as a bridge and a positive safety protecting the diaphragm. With the safety pin removed, pressure is transmitted to and collapses the diaphragm. As the fuze housing is forced down, the striker spring is compressed. At a point, the retaining ball is released into a cavity between the striker housing and the fuze well. The spring-driven striker then explodes the mine by impinging on the detonator. The Type 59 may be boobytrapped using an MUV-type pull fuze installed in the secondary fuze well. A wire from the fuzes pull pin is normally attached to a fixed object (stake) located under the mine.
The mine is painted OD green.
