Description
The Chinese Type 59 antipersonnel mine is closely patterned after the former Soviet POMZ-2M.
A tripwire pull fuze/detonator assembly, Type 59 is copied directly from the basic MUV fuze, is threaded into the top of the body. The entire unit is set upon a wood-mounted stake. Stake mines, using an interconnected matrix of tripwires, are commonly encountered at AP minefields protecting fixed facilities such as airfields, depots, and troop locations. The mine produces approximately 200 fragments of 1.0 gram or more in weight.
