Description
The cartridge has the same basic structure as the M56A3 cartridge with the addition of a tracer element.
The models differ in the method of loading the projectiles. The M242 has the HE mix and the incendiary mix combined in one pellet with the tracer mix added at the base of the projectile. The M242A1 projectile has the incendiary loaded as a separate pellet and the HE mix is also loaded as a separate pellet, then the tracer pellet is added. This improves fire start capability.
